AN EVERYDAY EGG SOUFFLÉ

Tori Trogani - March 31, 2017

Like many people, one of my New Years resolutions was to eat better. Towards the end of last year I was very busy and had gotten into bad habits consisting of a lot of take out and late night pasta before passing out and doing it all over again the next day. But I’ve been doing pretty well! With a fantastic resource like Pinterest to farm for ideas, I’ve been able to experiment and find some amazing recipes that are tasty and healthy. The only tricky one has been breakfast. I like to have something with a bit of protein ideally but a girl can only eat so many eggs! I’ve had them fried, poached, and scrambled and I love eggs, don’t get me wrong, but it can get a bit repetitive. That’s why when a family friend recipe shared this recipe for an egg soufflé, I was immediately intrigued.

A TASTE OF IRELAND AT A BOSTON COMMON PUB

Julia Trogani - January 16, 2017

Happy Birthday to my baby girl!

My daughter Cassie, who turned 23 this month, is a lover of all things Celtic (check out her Instagram thebirchandstag) so we treated her to an early dinner at Emmets Pub on Beacon Street in Boston. Only a short walk around the corner from Boston Common, the Massachusetts State House and the Omni Parker House, this is one of the city’s most authentically Irish Pubs, with traditional music each Saturday afternoon between 3:00pm and 6:00pm. We were looking forward to good food, good drinks and good music.

A DECADENT HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE

Tori Trogani - December 13, 2016

On a cold day, is there anything more satisfying than a good mug of hot chocolate?  And I mean a really good one. In fact, I would say I’m a bit of a hot chocolate snob and I think I may have perfected the recipe for the best hot chocolate, but I’ll let you be the judge.

I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE…EATING PASTA

Tori Trogani - July 4, 2016

Happy 4th of July! Our post is up late today, I know, but I’m very excited to tell you about the 4th of July outing we just had so you can check out some of amazing places we went. We decided to take a trip down to Newport tonight to see the Newport Harbor Fireworks (post going up on Wednesday!), but on the way, we stopped for dinner at Pasta Beach.

Spill The Beans: Five Stars for Seven Stars

Tori Trogani - June 13, 2016

I have never gone into a Seven Stars Bakery without finding lines of locals picking up their favorite pastries, muffins, croissant and beautifully baked breads. Tori, Cassie and I met at the Hope Street location today to do a bit of shopping and indulge in a little something delicious from this busy café/bakery and, as always, found the place humming with hungry patrons.

Seven Stars Bakery Hope Street Providence RI

Snaking our way through the stanchions to the case, we were greeted with an amazing array of baked goods: ginger scones, sticky buns, raisin danish, chocolate almond croissant – what to choose? We picked out our pastries, placed our orders for cappuccinos and tea and quickly grabbed an open table.

Seven Stars Pastry Case

The interior of this Seven Stars location has an industrial vibe with cement floors and a huge metal door on one wall that once belonged to a wood fired oven until the shops bread production was moved off site. Cozy café tables and counters line the front wall and window, while in the rear there is long wood table with benches for communal seating. We were lucky enough to get a table by the window on this beautiful, sunny fall day. Getting seating here can be bit challenging in cooler weather, but as temps warm up the seating situation eases when they open a petite but pretty patio for outdoor dining.

I am kind of a pushover for good latte art and the baristas here are experts in that department (witness the gallery of masterpieces on the wall behind the coffee bar). The owners take an equal amount of care choosing their coffee, developing relationships with fair trade farms and using local coffee roaster New Harvest. The result is delicious coffee that perfectly complements their baked goods. We all enjoyed our treats today. Cassie and I split a moist and delicious pumpkin walnut muffin, while Tori chose their buttery, flakey bacon, goat cheese and prosciutto danish.

The bread at Seven Stars is stellar so we grabbed a crusty baguette for the road before heading out to shop the fab shops of Hope Street.  I highly recommend trying the olive bread made with Kalamata and Moroccan cured olives – so good!

TAPPING INTO SUMMER ON PROVIDENCE’S EAST SIDE

Julia Trogani - June 8, 2016

There is really nothing I like better than grilled food. With summer weather still a few weeks off, and cooler weather dragging on this spring, I decided to buy a large cast iron grill pan and get my summer food fix on….

SPILL THE BEANS: REDEFINING ARTISAN IN WAYLAND SQUARE

Tori Trogani - June 6, 2016

We  actually first stumbled upon L’artisan while in pursuit of a totally different bakery/restaurant. The family got really into the show Unique Eats on the Cooking Channel about two years back and when a place in Providence got featured we knew we had to check it out. We set out to find La Laiterie at Farmstead in Wayland Square with a lot of excitement only to find that they had since closed and the owners had moved back to Boston where they had opened a new restaurant called Townsman (which we are dying to try out!).

But it wasn’t a wasted trip because while we were driving around, confused, looking for La Laiterie we found the beautiful L’artisan Café & Bakery instead!

DUCKS AND BUNNIES, AND DRINKS, OH MY!

Julia Trogani - June 1, 2016

I kept hearing about the Duck & Bunny from friends…and seeing Facebook posts of delectable treats…and a pretty little garden to relax and unwind in. Curious,  I looked up their website: It’s a “snuggery,” it said – a real word meaning a “cosy and comfortable place”. Well, who wouldn’t want to spend time at a snuggery?

LET’S DO BRUNCH: THE BOROUGH’S BEST BRUNCH

Tori Trogani - May 23, 2016

One of my first jobs out of college was working at a little jewelry store in Stonington Borough. This ended up being a good and a bad thing: good, because I got the chance to explore all the wonderful shops and restaurants this tiny enclave of Connecticut has to offer, and bad, because I got the chance to explore all the wonderful shops and restaurants this tiny enclave of Connecticut has to offer and, subsequently, was extremely broke.

Despite being post-college poor, on Sundays I would sometimes like to treat myself to slightly more fancy fare than usual by visiting Noah’s Restaurant just down the road for their famous brunch.
