On a cold day, is there anything more satisfying than a good mug of hot chocolate? And I mean a really good one. In fact, I would say I’m a bit of a hot chocolate snob and I think I may have perfected the recipe for the best hot chocolate, but I’ll let you be the judge.
Homemade Hot Chocolate Recipe
1 1/2 cups of 2% milk or whole milk
4 oz of Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Chocolate Premium Baking Chips or other high quality dark chocolate
Homemade Whipped Cream and Chocolate Shavings
Take your milk and pour it into a small saucepan over medium heat and warm, stirring constantly to prevent a skin from forming on the top.
While that is warming, place the 4oz of chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until mostly melted. Stir the chocolate gently to melt it the rest of the way.
Once the milk is warm enough that steam starts to rise and it is a little too hot to the touch, pour in the melted chocolate and whisk is vigorously to combine and form a little bit of at froth on top.
Serve immediately and top with your toppings of choice.
