There is almost nothing I’d rather do than to sit in a cool cafe, sip a delicious cappuccino and eat inspired, thoughtfully prepared food. Olga’s Cup + Saucer exceeds expectations on all counts: having one of coolest vibes and most creative cafe menus in the foodie-friendly city of Providence.
Housed in a tiny cottage tucked away in Providence’s Jewelry District, Olga’s is well known for artisan baked goods that can also be found at local farmer’s markets (look for our upcoming posts) and better grocery stores in the area.
Crisp buttery croissants, crusty baguettes, and a tantalizing array of scones, muffins, breads and pastries fill the cases of the bakery counter where you place both eat-in and take out orders on weekdays (a host will seat you and wait staff will take your order on weekends). There are endless coffee and tea options available, from straight up Latte’s to London Fogs. And their brunch is truly one of the best in the city (worthy of it’s own blog post!). I’ve loved everything I’ve had, though my favorite dish is their perfectly Poached Eggs on a Cheddar Chive Scone – delicious!
Earlier this week I had a lunch date with my two lovely daughters there. The lunch menu is chock full of appetizing choices including their daily specials which are posted on blackboards in the bakery.
Tori and I picked two of the daily pizza offerings to split: the Butternut, Gorgonzola & Scallion and the Zucchini, Pancetta & Goat Cheese (mouth-watering combos), while Cassie went for their Grilled Cheese with Tomato on House-Made Sourdough. Both pizzas were amazing and turned out to be much bigger than we had anticipated- plenty to take home!
Both of my girls have a particular fondness for Coke served in the glass bottles for a bit of nostalgia. They also went for warm drinks – Cassie opted for the Hot Apple Cider while Tori ordered her favorite Cappuccino. Service can be a bit slower at peak hours but the delectable food is well worth the wait.
Adding considerable charm to this place is the rambling, rustic outdoor seating available from late spring to early fall. Tori likes to say it reminds her of a “Secret Garden”- a peaceful little oasis in the middle of the city. Olga’s Cup + Saucer is the perfect choice for a leisurely weekday lunch or weekend brunch – don’t miss it!
